The first gay venues emerged. In the 1980s, Spain’s first gay disco opened. The city also became a magnet for unconventional artists, many of them gay. They came from Barcelona, which is an hour’s drive south. Today, gay Sitges, located on the Mediterranean Sea, is a perfect place for gay travel all year round with its gay beaches, carnivals and a vibrant nightlife.
